CAR MAINTENANCE AND CARE
Make sure that your vehicle is functioning healthy by always checking and changing your fluids on time, every time. The outline we have included below will ensure that you can avoid any sort of accidents of needing to call for roadside fuel delivery.
After every three thousand miles, make sure you change your oil. This will ensure that the gears in your engine don’t begin to grind on each other and cause your engine serious damage. After every thirty thousand miles, also make sure to change the anti-freeze, brake fluid, and transmission fluids. The best way to keep track of fluid changes and to prevent major issues with your vehicle, is to make sure to schedule a maintenance check every fifteen to thirty thousand miles or every year.
The last two things to keep in mind are when to change your air and fuel filters. If you drive often (like say you commute everyday for work), consider replacing your air filter every twelve thousand miles. If you drive infrequently, make sure that your air filter is replaced every twelve months. For frequent drivers, make sure that your fuel filter is replaced every twenty four thousand miles, or every two years for infrequent drivers.
TIRE MAINTENANCE AND CARE
For proper tie maintenance, make sure to not wear away your tire by driving on run down tires. This could lead to damaging the wheel well, which is an extremely expensive, and preventable auto repair. Also, remember to rotate all of your tires every five thousand miles (or for infrequent drivers, every six months). This will help keep your tire treads healthy and will make them safer for driving on.
Check tire pressures once a week, especially if you are trying to get better gas mileage. This is because low tire pressure can affect fuel economy, handling, and comfort. To accurately measure tire pressure, check your tires when they are cold by waiting at least three hours after driving.
Best way to determine if the tread of your tires are safe for driving on, use the penny trick. Take a penny and place Abraham Lincoln’s head into one of the grooves of the tread. If part of his head is covered by a tread, you’re ok. If you can see all of his head, it’s time to replace the tire. When a tread is worn down to 1/16 of an inch, tires must be replaced.
Gas Mileage Tips
Check and/ or change your air filter every year (or every twelve thousand miles if you are a frequent driver) to improve fuel economy and keep your engine running smoothly. When refilling a gas tank, do not top off. Any additional gas that is filled into your tank is over what your vehicle needs, which is just going to seep out of the gas tank.
Lastly, use proper oil, using premium oil on a regular oil vehicle will not do anything extra for your vehicle, in the long run it might make the gears shift slowly and can damage the engine with built up oil.. By using proper fuel, it can improve a car’s gas mileage by one to two percent. Most important of all, always check for potential problems before they happen by following our simple tips listed above. And, should you ever need our assistance, call (212) 564-7100.
