How Do You Know When To Get New Tires?
If you notice that your treads are worn out, then it is time to get new tires immediately, no amount of air that you pump into them will restore your tires to working conditions. The best way to test the level of your tires is to use the Lincoln Method. Take a penny and place it into one of the grooves of the treads so that Abraham Lincoln’s head is facing down and his hair is parallel to the tread. If his hairline or any portion of Abe’s head is covered by the tread, you do not need new tires. If you can see all of his head, it’s time to replace the tire, or if you notice that the tread is worn down to a 16th of an inch, come into our shop in order to have the tires replaced.

Every three months, or every three thousand miles, whichever landmark occurs earlier. It is always a good idea to schedule regular maintenance with A1 Collision NY every three to six months in order to properly maintain your vehicle.

How Often Should I Replace My Fuel Filter?
Your fuel filter should be replaced every year, or if you are a frequent driver, every twenty five thousand miles.
Why Should I Rotate My Tires?
The reason why we rotate car tires is to help preserve them so that the treads don’t break down and cause damage to the wheel well. This in turn will ensure that your tires last longer. As a general rule of thumb, you should rotate your tires every three thousand miles, and when in doubt use the Abe Lincoln trick to check your treads.
Should I Top Off When Refueling?
No, topping off is not good for your vehicle. Topping off can cause the gears in your engine to begin to stick together. This is because the extra fuel has nowhere to go and it will leak onto the gears, becoming stuck and baked onto the gears due to the extreme heat of the engine. It is best to fill up without getting a few extra clicks in from your pump.

What Function Does an Oil Change Serve?
Oil is what makes an engine function because oil circulates throughout the engine and is responsible for lubricating all of the moving parts. Without oil, these moving parts would rub against each other and would eventually tear itself apart.
Why Do You Need an Oil Change?
Regular changing of your vehicle’s oil will allow your engine to last much longer because you will reduce the friction among all of the engine’s moving parts. As oil gets old, it doesn’t lubricate the engine’s parts as well and can lead to increased wear and damage. Fresh oil also absorbs and disperses heat much better than old oil does.
