A1 Collision NY handles insurance collision repair across Queens from our shop at 4525 36 Street in Long Island City. We write the estimate, submit it to your insurer, negotiate the supplements directly with the adjuster, and document the work so the file stands up later.

Do I have to use my insurer's repair shop?
After a collision your insurer will usually suggest a shop, sometimes firmly. In New York the choice of who repairs your vehicle is generally yours. A network shop can be quicker administratively, and it also operates under agreed pricing, which creates pressure toward the less expensive option on repair versus replace and on parts. Often that is fine. Sometimes it is not, and the person who cares most about the difference is the one who owns the car.
How do you handle my insurance claim?
- A written, itemised estimate with every part categorized as original equipment, aftermarket, recycled or remanufactured
- Disassembly and photographic documentation of hidden damage, which is what gets a supplement approved quickly rather than queried
- Direct negotiation with your adjuster, so technical arguments happen between two people who understand the work
- A documented repair process including pre-repair and post-repair scans
- Rental arrangements while the car is with us
Does no-fault insurance cover damage to my car in New York?
New York is a no-fault state, and that phrase causes more confusion in collision repair than anything else. No-fault covers injuries. Damage to your vehicle is separate, and fault matters there. You can claim against the other driver’s insurer, which avoids your deductible but waits on liability being accepted, or claim on your own cover, pay the deductible and let your insurer recover it. If the other driver has no insurance, the cover that helps is on your own policy.
The repair itself
- Collision and panel repair
- Frame and structural straightening
- Color matched painting
- Dent removal
- Auto glass and windshield
- Wheel alignment after structural work
- Suspension repair
- ASE certified technicians

Insurer's network shop or a shop you choose?
In New York you choose where your car is repaired. An insurer can recommend a shop in its network, but it cannot require you to use one.
