Where can I buy and service tires in Long Island City?
A1 Collision NY & Auto Care is a tire dealer in Long Island City. We sell tires, fit them, balance them, rotate them, and repair them, and because we are also a full auto repair shop we can deal with the suspension and alignment problems that wear tires out in the first place.
We are at 4525 36 Street, Long Island City 11101, open Monday through Sunday, 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM. Call (212) 564-7100 for availability in your size.
What tire brands do you carry?
We stock tires from Kelly, Cooper, and Falken. If you are after a specific size, load rating, or a brand we do not hold, call and we will tell you what we can get and how quickly.
What tire services do you offer?
- New tires, fitted and balanced. Replacing in pairs or in fours keeps the handling predictable, particularly on a front-wheel-drive car.
- Tire rotation. Front and rear tires wear at different rates. Rotating them evens that out and gets more life from the set.
- Puncture repair. A nail in the tread can usually be repaired. Damage to the sidewall cannot, and we will tell you which one you have rather than selling you a tire you do not need.
- Seasonal changeover and storage questions. If you run winter tires, we can swap them over.
How do I know when my tires need replacing?
The usual signs are worth knowing, because tires are also one of the more common reasons a car fails its New York State inspection:
- Tread worn to the wear bars, the small raised strips that sit across the grooves
- Uneven wear across the tread, which usually points at alignment or suspension rather than the tire
- Cracking in the sidewall, common on tires that have aged rather than covered miles
- A bulge anywhere on the sidewall, which means the tire should be replaced now
- Vibration through the steering wheel at speed, which is often a balance problem
New York City roads are hard on tires. Potholes, curbs, and constant stop-start driving wear them faster than highway miles do, so it is worth checking them more often than you would elsewhere.
Why are my tires wearing unevenly?
Tires that wear unevenly are usually telling you about something else. A car pulling to one side, or eating the inside edge of a front tire, generally has an alignment or suspension issue, and fitting new tires without fixing that just wears the new ones the same way. We are a full collision and auto repair shop, so we can look at both together.
A1 Collision NY has served New York City since 1991.
