Where can I get transmission repair in Long Island City?
Stop-start traffic is the hardest possible duty cycle for an automatic transmission. Heat is what kills them, and city driving generates plenty of it.
A1 Collision NY diagnoses and repairs transmissions at 4525 36 Street, Long Island City 11101, Monday through Sunday, 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM. Call (212) 564-7100.
What are the early signs of transmission trouble?
- Slipping. Engine revs rise but the car does not accelerate to match.
- Delayed engagement. A pause between selecting drive and the car moving.
- Harsh or hunting shifts. Particularly between the lower gears.
- Red or brown fluid on the ground. Transmission fluid is usually red when healthy and darkens as it degrades.
- A burnt smell. Overheated fluid, and a reason to stop driving it.
Transmissions rarely fail without warning. They give you weeks of small symptoms first, and the cost difference between acting then and acting after is large.
Could my transmission problem be something else?
Plenty of faults that feel like a failing transmission are not one. Low fluid, a failed solenoid, a worn engine mount that lets the drivetrain move, or a sensor fault can all produce the same symptoms. We diagnose before quoting, because the difference between a solenoid and a rebuild is enormous and you deserve to know which you are looking at.
How often should transmission fluid be changed?
Fluid and filter changes at the interval in your handbook are the cheapest transmission work there is. Treat the severe-service interval as the right one for New York City driving, the same way you would for an oil change.
