What is vehicle detailing, and do you offer it in Long Island City?
Vehicle detailing is not a car wash. A wash removes dirt; detailing removes what has bonded to the paint and then corrects and protects the finish underneath.
A1 Collision NY details at 4525 36 Street, Long Island City 11101, open Monday through Sunday, 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM. Call (212) 564-7100.

What does complete exterior detailing include?
- Wash and decontamination, removing bonded fallout that washing leaves behind
- Machine polishing to reduce swirl marks and light scratching
- Protection applied to the corrected paint
- Wheels, tires and exterior trim
- Glass cleaned inside and out
Why get detailing after a paint repair?
New paint is only as good as the panels around it look. A freshly refinished wing next to oxidized paint draws the eye to the repair, which is the opposite of the point. Detailing after car painting is what makes the work disappear.
Can detailing fix deep scratches or dents?
Polishing removes defects in the clear coat. Anything through the clear, or a dent, needs actual repair. If a scratch catches your fingernail, it needs bodywork rather than a polisher, and we will tell you which you have.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Is vehicle detailing the same as a car wash?
No. A wash cleans the surface. Detailing decontaminates, corrects and protects the paint itself.
Will detailing remove scratches?
Light scratches in the clear coat, yes. If a scratch catches a fingernail it is through the clear and needs paint work.
How often should I have it done?
Twice a year suits most New York cars, given road salt in winter and industrial fallout year round.
Do you do vehicle detailing after a collision repair?
Yes, and it is worth doing. It stops a fresh panel standing out against older paint.
