Before anything else, the legal position, because it catches people out in New York.

New York restricts how dark the front side windows and the windshield may be. The front side windows must let in at least 70 percent of light, and the windshield may only be tinted above the AS-1 line marked on the glass. Rear side windows and the rear window are treated differently, and rules can depend on the vehicle type.

Tint is checked at New York State inspection. A car that is too dark at the front fails, and the tint has to come off before it will pass. We will tell you what is compliant for your vehicle before we fit anything, rather than fitting what you ask for and letting the inspection sort it out.

• Blocking ultraviolet light, which is what fades and cracks a dashboard
• Reduced glare
• Privacy for anything left on the back seat

Old film goes purple and bubbles as the adhesive breaks down. We remove it and clean the adhesive off the glass properly, which is the slow part of the job and the part that gets skipped when it is done cheaply. If you need old tint off to pass inspection, that is a job on its own and we are happy to do just that.
